Industrial Air Cooled Portables
(From 3 to 25 ton capacity)
These types of units are meant to sit outside of the space that they are cooling and are typically used outdoors. The large air filled tires for these units allow for easy movement and positioning. Situate the unit as close to the space being cooled as possible but in a place where the heat being vented from the top of the unit (Condenser Air) does not impact the space you are cooling. |

Placement
-
Position the unit in the space to be cooled and in the location it will most effectively distribute cooled air. Ensure that the duct has the shortest and most direct route possible.
-
The unit must be sitting completely level and the wheels must be in the locked position.
-
Minimum clearances are 24" from all sides and at least 72" overhead to allow for proper air flow and heat dissipation from the unit.
Electrical
- Have a licenced electrician hook up the proper cable and breaker combination to electrically power the unit.
- All of these industrial units are equipment with movie industry cam-lok connectors. If your application does not include cam-lok power, then you will need our junction box which allows for easy connection between standard cable and cam-lok cord ends.
- Some of these large units are equipped to run on a wired remote control system. Connect the proper end of the remote cable to the remote port on the unit. Run the other end of the remote cable to the desired control location and plug the opposite end of the remote cable into the push-button controller unit.
- All three phase units are equipped with phase monitors that will not allow the equipment to start if the phasing is wrong. If you have confirmed power to the machine and it is not starting, then incorrect phasing is probably the reason. Simply have the electrician switch any two of the power lines and restart.
Setup
- Run the supply air duct from the supply air fitting on the unit to where the cold air is required to be introduced. Make this run (in the case of the larger units with two air supply outlets it will be two runs) as short and as direct as possible. Avoid bunching the duct at the start or end of a run. Use the band clamp on the supply air fitting to secure the duct at the machine end and use the custom Velcro tabs to secure to any custom fitting along the runoff of the duct. Make sure that the first length of duct is attached to the machine so that the end of the duct with the Velcro “hooks” is attached to the fitting. The second piece of duct will therefore be attached to the outside of the first piece, making sure that the supply air duct always feeds inside the second and successive lengths of duct, especially where the duct does not have any Velcro strips to match up.
- Run the Return Air duct and secure to the Return Air fitting on the unit using the band clamp assembly. Make this run no longer than 25 feet. It is acceptable not to use any return aair duct at all. The unit will gather the air from where it is sitting, cool the air, and supply it into the space. Remember that this air will be introduced into the space being cooled so it must not contain pollutants such as car or truck exhaust, paint fumes, smoke etc.
Condensate
- All air conditioning units remove humidity or water vapour from the air that they are cooling. This humidity is captured in the form of water and collects inside our equipment in a condensate reservoir. A condensate pump is used to automatically pump the condensate out of the machine and through the condensate drain line (clear braided line already installed above) to a drain. We will supply you with the appropriate tubing to facilitate pumping this water to a drain.
Operation
- When all of the installation requirements have been satisfied, and the unit is powered on, you are ready to operate the machine. These units can be controlled in one of two ways:
By a push button mounted on the unit, or
By a remote push button controlled through a remote cable assembly.
Only one of these controllers can operate the unit at one time. Our Cool Air technicians can guide you through the selection process if the operating mode of the unit is not what you need.
Start
- To start the machine, simply press the green button on the enabled controller. The Supply Air fan will start to blow air and the 3 minute countdown to start the compressor or actual cooling process will begin. Once the 3 minute timer has lapsed, the compressor will start along with the condensor or outdoor air fan. The cooling process has started and you will begin to feel cool air coming from the flex duct.
Stop
- Simply press the Red button on the Push Button unit. The unit can be restarted but the cooling process will not restart until after the mandatory 3 minute countdown.
- If you are leaving the unit off overnight, it is a good idea to shut off the breaker mounted on the unit itself.
These are complex machines and if you follow these installation instructions closely you should have trouble free usage. However if something should go wrong with the unit or you are unsure of proper procedures please call us immediately – Cool Air Rentals Ltd – 604.253.4171. Continued improper use of any unit can result in damage to the unit and costly repairs.
